Few places in Europe carry quite the visual weight of Bled. The glacial lake, ringed by the Julian Alps and presided over by a medieval castle perched on a sheer cliff face, has drawn travellers since the Habsburg aristocracy discovered its thermal springs in the nineteenth century.
