Osaka Dotonbori Area: Tea Ceremony & Matcha-Making Experience

The Osaka Dotonbori Area Tea Ceremony and Matcha-Making Experience is a hands-on cultural session held in Osaka's Dotonbori district, one of the city's most recognised entertainment and dining quarters. The session introduces participants to the principles of Japanese tea ceremony, a practice with roots in Zen Buddhism that was formalised during the Muromachi period and codified by tea master Sen no Rikyu in the sixteenth century.

Guests learn to whisk matcha using a bamboo chasen, follow the prescribed movements of the ceremony, and prepare and drink their own bowl of tea under instructor guidance. The format is participatory rather than observational, making it suitable for those with no prior knowledge of Osaka traditions or tea culture.
