Puccini's timeless tragedy returns to the Metropolitan Opera House in Franco Zeffirelli's magnificent production, a staging long cherished for its scale and detail. The opera follows the doomed romance between the seamstress Mimi and the poet Rodolfo among the bohemians of nineteenth-century Paris, alongside the tempestuous pairing of Musetta and Marcello.
The run features rotating casts in the principal roles, with several sopranos alternating as Mimi and several tenors sharing Rodolfo across performances, led from the podium by conductors Carlo Rizzi and Marco Armiliato. It is sung in Italian with Met Titles available in English, German, Spanish and Italian.
Expect grand-scale opera performed by a full company and orchestra at one of the world's leading opera houses. Because the leading roles rotate, the exact cast depends on your performance date.
