Walk along medieval walls and climb the Leaning Tower
This day trip from Florence covers the roughly 80-kilometre journey to Pisa, a city on the Arno river whose medieval centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The itinerary centres on the Campo dei Miracoli, the cathedral square that holds the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Camposanto monumental cemetery, and the freestanding bell tower known worldwide for its pronounced lean, caused by soft ground on one side during construction, which began in 1173.
On arrival, visitors walk along the medieval city walls and explore the Campo dei Miracoli at their own pace. The optional Leaning Tower ticket adds access to the climb of the tower's 294 steps, which rise to approximately 56 metres and offer views across the surrounding plain. Check the Day Trips from Florence schedule for departure times, group sizes, guide availability, and whether the tower entry fee is included or purchased separately on the day.
